Allen scores deciding goal as Lake City girls edge Viks

COEUR d’ALENE — Alyssa Allen scored the go-ahead goal in the 52nd minute on an assist from Nikki Webster to lift the visiting Lake City Timberwolves to a 2-1 victory over the Coeur d’Alene Vikings on Saturday in 5A Inland Empire League play.
“It was a typical Lake City-Coeur d’Alene match,” Lake City coach Matt Ruchti said. “They put up a good fight, but we kind of had the run of the play.”
Brittany Amburn had three saves for Lake City (4-5-3, 2-1-1 5A IEL), which travels to Lakeland on Tuesday.
Christine Woeller had 10 saves for Coeur d’Alene (5-6-1, 1-3), which hosts Post Falls on Tuesday.

POST FALLS — Finess White scored two second-half goals to move the Trojans past the Bears in a nonleague match.
“It was senior day for us so we started all the seniors and they played well as a group,” Post Falls coach Becky Thompson said. “Some of them that came off the bench played well.”
Alexis Smith added a goal in the 69th minute for Post Falls (6-4-5), which travels to Coeur d’Alene on Thursday.

SANDPOINT — Sisters Meghan and Nichole Pagano scored goals one minute apart in the second half, leading the Bulldogs over the Hawks in 4A Inland Empire League play at War Memorial Field.
Meghan Pagano now has a team-high 10 goals on the season, and the surging Bulldogs (5-6-5, 2-1-1 4A IEL) peppered the goal with 30 shots to remain undefeated in their last four games. The Hawks (3-8-2, 0-3-1) managed only five shots on goal.
“We’ve been switching lineups and positions and finally feel like we’re clicking, so I’m hopeful this game is a confidence booster going in to districts,” said Sandpoint assistant coach Janica Blasko. “I thought Whitney Reichold played composed, confident and focused today.”
Bailey Scrimsher and Hannah Griesemer continued to split halves in goal, combining for the shutout.
No. 2 Sandpoint will face No. 3 Lakeland on Oct. 11 in the 4A Region I tournament opener in Sandpoint. Lakeland plays host to Lake City on Tuesday.

PRIEST RIVER — Senior forward Holly Hirst’s goal midway through the first half proved to be the difference in the Spartans’ IML win over St. Maries.
Priest River (5-9-1, 4-5-1 IML) outshot the Lumberjacks 8-2 in the first half and held off five St. Maries shot attempts after the break to end league play on a winning note.
Keeper Chelsea Thault recorded four saves for St. Maries (0-9-1, 0-14-1), which hosts Freeman on Tuesday. Priest River plays at Lakeland on Thursday.

MOSCOW — Kyle Peterson slipped a goal past Timberwolves goalkeeper Tanner Horton in the 79th minute to force a nonleague draw.
“There was about 30 to 45 seconds left and the pass went to the middle and our defender slipped and lost him,” Lake City coach Chad Beadell said. “He got a shot off between two players and it hit off the side and went in.”
Leonard Backmann scored on an assist from Luke Barrett in the 73rd minute for Lake City (7-3-2), which hosts Post Falls on Thursday.

POST FALLS — Timmy Mueller scored a hat trick for the Trojans in a 5A Inland Empire League win over the Bengals.
“It was a good day of soccer,” Post Falls coach Gabe Lawson said. “We got a chance to play everyone today with ample time. We knew we had to win to keep our goal alive of winning a league title.”
Cole Jesienouski had a goal and assist for Post Falls (12-1-1, 4-1 5A IEL), which hosts St. George’s on Tuesday.

SANDPOINT — Five different Bulldogs found the back of the net, as Sandpoint celebrated senior night in style with a 4A IEL win over Lakeland at War Memorial Field.
Seniors Gerhart Suppiger and Jansen Rinck each finished off an assist from fellow senior Tanner Williams to give the Bulldogs (9-5-1, 4-0 4A IEL) an early 2-0 lead.
“The combination play was spot on tonight; two-touch soccer,” said Sandpoint coach Adam Tajan, who said it was nice to see more names on the scoring sheet. “We had good variety collectively as a team.”
Shane Stanley added his 10th goal of the season, and Kanyen Bauer picked up his fourth shutout.
Lakeland (2-13, 0-4 4A IEL) travels to Moscow on Oct. 12 in the first round of the 4A Region 1 tournament. The winner plays at Sandpoint on Oct. 14 for the championship.
Sandpoint is at Coeur d’Alene on Tuesday.

PRIEST RIVER — A high line helped the host Spartans keep the game scoreless for the majority of the first half, repeatedly drawing the Lumberjacks offside until St. Maries struck in the 30th and 32nd minutes on the way to an Intermountain League win.
Ryan Kennelly and Ian Heath reached the back of the net in the first half and Rhett Ryle added a goal in the 43rd minute for the Lumberjacks (5-7-3, 3-2-1 IML), who host the Coeur d’Alene junior varsity on Saturday.
Senior keeper Allen Easley recorded 12 saves for the Spartans (2-12, 0-6 IML), who host Lakeland on Thursday.
