Glacier sophomore Shea Stevens talks with coach Rob Logsdon as she waits for her turn to tee off during day two of the Class AA state tournament on Saturday at Big Mountain Golf Course in Kalispell.

Shooting an even-par 72 on the final day of the Class AA state golf tournament at Big Mountain Golf Club helped Glacier's Ryan Porch not only move up the leaderboard into a second place tie, but it also allowed him to achieve his goal.

"I wanted to place top three," Porch said.

The sophomore, competing in his first state tournament, said he more or less fell out of medalist chase on Friday by carding a 6-over 78 at Buffalo Hill Golf Club. That left him in a 10-way tie for eighth place and four shots off the pace.

"I didn't think I had too good of a chance," Porch said of catching first-day leader Brandon McIver of Billings West.

"I knew Brandon would do it."

And McIver did it.

McIver wrapped up the 36-hole tournament with a 2-under 70 for a 144 total and medalist honors. He finished six shots ahead of runners-up Porch and Wyatt Nielson of Bozeman, who shot 76-74-150.

Porch was one of two Glacier golfers to earn all-state honors (top 15 placers). Logan Iverson, 77-76-153, finished in a four-way tie for sixth place.

"It's been a fun year. I have been playing some good golf all year. I'm happy," he said.

Those two also helped Glacier add more hardware to the school's trophy case. The Wolfpack tied for third this year with Bozeman. Both had 623 totals.

Billings Senior, 611, finished first with Billings West, 619, second.

Glacier finished second the two previous seasons, but shared the title in its first campaign.

"They have a lot to be proud of," Glacier coach Rob Logsdon said of his squad.

"We knew this year would be a little bit of a rebuilding year. We were very young. But they (players) know the tradition the teams before them set. They had a lot of pressure on them and they responded real well."

Flathead's boys, 668, tied for ninth place. The Braves had one all-state performer in Michael Lavin, 78-77-155. He tied for 11th.

Katie Fish, 80-76-156, won medalist honors in girls play by four shots. The CMR standout led from start to finish. Bergen Buck of Bozeman, 82-78-160, was second.

CMR had three girls in the top four spots and four in the top 15. That showing lifted the Rustlers to the team title with a 661 total. Bozeman was second, 674, and Missoula Hellgate third, 734.

Glacier, 802, was 10th and Flathead, 854, 14th. Neither team had a girl finish in the top 15.

Porch said his final round had plenty of highs and low.

"I started with a four-putt for a double (No. 2)," he said.

"Then three-putted for a bogey. I just couldn't get the speed of the greens. I was hammering past the hole way too much."

Mentally, he was able to adjust and put that behind him.

"Try to get some pars and stop the bleeding," he said at that point.

"I was happy I came back and didn't get down."

On the back nine, he drained a 12-foot eagle putt on No. 10.

"I stuck it within five feet, made that for a birdie (on No. 11). On No. 12, almost drove the green. I was five yards away, chipped in for an eagle."

Porch's game was finally on track.

"He worked very hard (on his game) over the winter," Logsdon said of Porch.

"He's really grown a lot as a player.

"Both Ryan and Logan will be strong players for us the next two seasons," Logsdon added.

"He (Iverson) was disappointed in his (final) round. He just never got it going."
