NIC students earn communication award
Seventeen North Idaho College students recently earned honors for excellence in communication. To qualify, students must complete at least nine credits earning a B or better in NIC communications courses.
Students who recently achieved the award include: Nevada Jack Kaye, Sandpoint; Cory Dickinson, Pinehurst; Lindsey Raye Armstrong, Spokane; Megan Beck, St. Maries; Mariah Chavez, Coeur d'Alene; Roxann Coleman, Rathdrum; Mary Hansen-Bell, Coeur d'Alene; Jessica Howard, Spirit Lake; Vierra Reid, St. Maries; Jack Vanderlinden, Coeur d'Alene; Stephanie Waters, Osburn; A. John Raines, Careywood; Tiffany Kaye Lewis, Athol; Ronald Broesch, Hayden; Stephen Grammer, Coeur d'Alene; Lauren Kleinsmith, Post Falls; and Misty Thayer, Coeur d'Alene.
NIC student nominated for national top reporter award
Former North Idaho College student Eli Francovich has been nominated for the Associated Collegiate Press Reporter of the Year award for two-year colleges.
Francovich is one of three finalists for the award, which will be given at the 89th annual ACP National College Convention in Louisville Oct. 29.
Francovich, 21, finished his final semester at NIC last spring and was managing editor of the NIC Sentinel.
Francovich, son of Chris and Karen Francovich of Post Falls, started at NIC as a dual-enrolled high school student from Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy.
Local students among merit semifinalists
Students from several area high schools are among the 16,000 semifinalists in the 56th annual National Merit Scholarship Program announced last week.
These high school seniors have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,400 National Merit Scholarships, worth more than $36 million. Scholarships will announced in the spring.
Kootenai County semifinalists include:
Timberlake High School, Spirit Lake: Hailey Knox.
Post Falls High School: Jamie Walker
Coeur d'Alene High School: Lauren Cohen, Nicholas Induni, Matthew Lambert, and Taylor Stewart.
Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy: Brady Rinaldi, Steven Hallgren, James George and Lewis Ellis.
About 15,000 semifinalists are expected to advance to the finalist level and it is from this group that all National Merit Scholarship winners will be chosen.
