Local VFW hosting essay writing contests

The Libby VFW Post No. 1548 and the ladies auxiliary are sponsoring the annual Patriot’s Pen Essay Writing Contest for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students, and the Voice of Democracy Audio Essay Competition for high-school students.

The Patriot’s Pen essay theme is “Does Patriotism Still Matter? The Voice of Democracy theme is “Does My Generation Have a Role in America’s Future?”

Entry forms can be found at local schools. Home-school students can call Ken or LoRee Hook at 293-8082 or the post at 293-5396.

The entry forms must be completed and to the post by midnight on Nov. 1. Judges will decide on first-, second- and third-place winners, who receive U.S. savings bonds.
