The Troy High School volleyball team split a pair of matches on Saturday with a marathon loss to Ronan followed by a four-game victory over Plains.

The Lady Trojans pushed Ronan to the limit in a five-game thriller. And Troy stayed competitive throughout with two starters missing. Setter Alyssa Olds and libero Megan Cummings were both taking ACT tests and missed the Ronan match.

“It was a crazy game … you learn to be very versatile,” THS coach Sandra Beal said. “Kids were trying new positions on the court and they adapted fairly well.”

The Maidens got the win, 25-18, 22-25, 17-25, 25-21, 15-13.

Kimmy Klin stepped in for Olds and had 13 of the team’s 24 set assists. Holli Higgins replaced Cummings and finished with a team-high eight digs. Jordan Williams finished with eight kills, Michaela Curry had two blocks and Klin aced six serves.

In the late match, the Lady Trojans rolled past Plains in a conference match, 25-21, 25-17, 23-25, 25-18.

“Plains is a pretty good team, they’re pretty scrappy,” Beal said. “We did very well communicating. Team kills of 40 is very good for us.”

Troy had one of its top matches of the season hitting with 40 kills. Curry led individually with 11. Hannah Tallmadge had one block. Klin led in digs with 10 and aces with five. Olds had all 30 of the team’s set assists.

Troy goes to 2-4 in the conference, 3-9 overall. The Trojans play at Eureka on Thursday. The girls then head to Mission on Saturday.
