SANDPOINT — Michele Rockwell won the 100 free and the 100 backstroke, Beth DiBenedetto won the 400 free and Salena Warburton won the 100 breaststroke to lead the Sandpoint girls to a 49-40 win over 5A power Lake City on Wednesday in a swimming dual at the SWAC.

Garrett Dunn led the boys team with an impressive win over arguably Lake City’s strongest swimmer in the 100 breaststroke, edging Patrick Loftus by less than one second. Dunn also won the 200 individual medley, Graham Cole won the 50 free and Chris Mann the 400 free to lead the Bulldog boys, who fell 52-35.

Sandpoint head coach Mike Brosnahan had high praise for the swimming of Dunn, as well as senior first year varsity swimmer Mica Wolcott, who placed fifth in the 50 free and 6th in the 100 free and continues to drop time.

“She’s made huge amounts of improvement, and might even qualify for state,” said Brosnahan, also praising his boys senior captain. “Garrett had a lot of speed and was a strong member of our relays.”

Sandpoint will compete in the Trick or Treat meet in Moscow on Oct. 29.
