The Alberton Panthers (2-4 conf., 3-4 ovr.) put the hurt on Heart Butte Warriors (0-4, 0-6) in a 61-0 six-man North victory on Friday.

“All week at practice our goal was to get to a point where we could get the younger kids some reps, and that’s what our starting six did,” Panther’s head coach Jake Giffin said.

Alberton would have been able to put in their subs a little earlier had an opening kick-off touchdown not been overturned on a penalty, but Jake Thompson made up for it, scoring on a 41-yard pass from Cody Ishler. Todd Mrystol, and Roy Schutter would add rushing scores before the end of the first quarter giving Alberton a 21-0 advantage.

In the second, Schutter scored again, this time from 13-yards out and Andrew Lommen broke free for a 60-yard scamper, pushing the lead to 33-0.

The panthers kept up their barrage after half-time as Mryston found the end-zone for the second time, and Lommen caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Lehl stretching the score to 47-0.

In the fourth quarter Scutter scored twice more from 22, and 42-yards yards out as the Panthers completed their shut-out, 61-0.

Schutter ran 10 times for 130 yards and four touchdowns leading the Panthers.

“We never really had a need to go to the air,” Giffin explained of his decision to stick with the running game. “We were getting the yardage on the ground so we just kept it on the ground.”

Next up for the Panthers is St. Regis, who defeated Alberton in their match-up earlier this season.

“We played them the first game of the year, in both teams first-year at six man, and we did a pretty good job against them,” Giffin said of his team’s 46-0 victory. “I expect that they have improved quite a bit from the first game. Our game plan is to come out fired up and get after them quick, and try to take control of the game as soon as possible.”

Alberton will host St. Regis on Friday at 7 p.m.
