Badger Boys Win Districts, Headed To State

The Bonners Ferry Boys Soccer team won the District I-II Championship on Thursday, Oct. 14, defeating St. Maries in the title game 2 –0.

The Badgers (15-3-0) earned both goals from senior Aaron Borne, the first in the 11th minute on a six-yard header off a crossing pass from senior Alex Mendez.

 The second goal came in the 63rd minute when Borne broke through the Lumberjack defense, receiving a through pass from Mendez once again and converting a beautiful 20-yard shot which beat keeper Judd Sempel into the left side-panel. 

The Badgers outshot St. Maries eight to one and dominated possession throughout the match. Badger defenders Trevor Hampton, Hayden Wakkinen, Keaton Tremble, and Ken Pew all had outstanding games.

To get to the title game, Bonners defeated Priest River on Wednesday 6 – 0. 

Junior forward Andre Zarate assisted on three of the goals, which were scored by junior midfielder Daniel Palacios, senior midfielder Aaron Moe, senior forward Matt Piccolo, senior midfielder Borne, and two by Mendez.  Senior keeper Mat Evans collected three saves in the shutout, the team’s seventh of the season.

The Badger Boys open the Idaho 3A State Tournament today in Twin Falls, facing District V runner-up Marsh Valley at 10 a.m.
