I put some more miles on the F-150 this past week. Made a trip all the way up to Vernon, B.C. to see my new boat is being built! I met Dan Feil, Bob Feil Boats and Motors, the local dealer of JetCraft boats that set everything up with the folks at JetCraft in B.C. We met Mark Delaney at the plant and he arranged a tour. We got to see the process of making JetCraft, HarberCraft and KingFisher boats, all of which are made here. As we went down the production line and learned how computers control the cutting and bending of materials and how the welds are performed on all of these boats, we came to a sleek aluminum hull. This was my boat, at the stage of getting its windshields in place, flotation injected and boxes and seats put in place. It is still a ways from the finish shop and painting, but its close. The shipping date is December 3rd, when a truckload of new JetCraft boats will be delivered to East Wenatchee for final rigging. It won't take long for the folks at Bob Feil Boats to get the riggers and other goodies mounted in the new boat, and you'll be seeing me on the water!

In my last report I mentioned taking a trip up the Vernon, B.C to check out the progress on the construction of my new JetCraft. On the way home it gave me the opportunity to check out a couple of very good steelhead rivers. I didn't really get a chance to fish much, but my wife Eileen did shoot a lot of video that should help anglers that plan to fish the Similkameen and Okanogan rivers. We stopped at some of the public access points and other known holes. The video will appear in November on my Fishing TV Show, so you'll want to tune in to learn about fishing these two rivers. The Okanogan River opened on the 8th of October and anglers are already pulling some nice fish from this river. The Similkameen will open on November 1st. It is great shape for fishing, and is also loaded with spawning Chinook; quite a sight. My next adventure will take me way down south, to the Grande Ronde, near the Oregon border. Brian Nielson, BJ's Guide Service, is going to introduce me to this beautiful river and the steelhead that it is known to produce. Rain or shine I'll learn all about this steelhead stream.

Opportunities to catch steelhead abound

We've had a lot of wet but actually pretty mild weather in the region. Anglers that like to chase steelhead have had good conditions for it. The announcement of the closure of the steelhead seasons on several of our rivers here in Central Washington wasn't as severe as anticipated. I will provide the details of the closures and share my experiences on the water in this column. There is still a lot of water open to fishing. I am continuing to do my duty to remove as many hatchery fish from our rivers as possible.

The Fishin Magician

I want to be sure everyone is aware of the big seminar coming up at Town Ford on January 12th. For the first time ever Buzz Ramsey is coming to Wenatchee to share his insights on steelhead fishing. Buzz has been named to the Hall of Fame with the Association of Northwest Steelheaders and the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame. He is also a Pro-Staffer for a variety of very big name makers of fishing products, including Berkley, Abu Garcia, Minn Kota, Willie Boats, Mercury Motors and others. I am happy to also announce that Anton Jones, Darrell and Dads Family Guide Service, has agreed to be at the seminar, too. He guides on Rufus Woods and will provide information on how to fish for the triploid rainbow up there. He has been fishing Rufus Woods for many years and will have current information on the fishing up there. The seminar is going to be a very special one and I hope you all can make it. I also want to remind everyone that my Signature Salmon Spread is now available at Mike's Meat and Farmers Market on North Wenatchee Avenue. Get some for your New Year's Party!
