Thieves target Woodway Park

A rash of opportunity thefts were recently reported in the Woodway Park area west of Libby.
Three incidents are believed to have occurred Monday night or early Tuesday.
Ten dollars in quarters and insurance and registration paperwork were stolen from an unlocked vehicle on Pioneer Road.
Chainsaws were taken from the back of a pickup while it was parked under a carport on Indian Head Furlong.
Two unlocked vehicles belonging to the same Dome Mountain Avenue address were rifled through – a purse and Mp3 player taken.
“It’s important to realize they’re not going after fishing poles here,” deputy Brent Faulkner of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office said. “People are leaving financial instruments in their vehicles at night. They’re targeting them and they’re trying to use them as long as they can.”
A vehicle theft occurred the prior Friday night in the same neighborhood. A purse was taken from an unlocked vehicle in a driveway on Indian Head Furlong.
“It’s very similar (circumstances),” Faulkner said. “Whether they are connected or not is under investigation. It sure sounds the same.”
Faulkner cautions the public that the culprit or culprits seem to be especially interested in financial items.
“We need to warn people that they’re going after change, money, credit cards, checkbooks, anything that they can go and use,” he said.
