Lake Coeur d’Alene cruise
to benefit NIC athletics
The North Idaho College Booster Club is kicking off the 2010-11 athletic season with a cruise on Lake Coeur d’Alene from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 8.
“Let’s Go Cruisin’” will include refreshments and offers a chance to meet this season’s Cardinal coaches and team captains during a pre-cruise event from 5 to 6:15 p.m. at the Human Rights Education Institute Building, located on the northeast corner of the city park on Mullan. The event is open to the public.
The cruise will include a no-host bar and music.
Boarding for the cruise begins at 6 p.m. at Independence Point. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in the NIC Athletics Office in Post Hall.
The event is open to the public.
All proceeds will benefit NIC athletics through the NIC Booster Club.

Outdoor Classic at Avista
Tickets for the Rockstar Outdoor Hockey Classic will go on sale to the public today starting at 9 a.m. at the Spokane Chiefs ticket office and through all TicketsWest outlets.
Spokane will host the Kootenay Ice at Avista Stadium on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, in the WHL’s first ever outdoor game.
Tickets can be purchased by calling (509) 535-PUCK (7825) or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT (7328).
Seats remain in all price categories. Fans can choose from all-inclusive seats that feature all-you-can-eat hot dogs, Pepsi products and peanuts to reserved bench seats. Avista Stadium’s group areas will also be available for purchase.
Geathers signs with
CFL’s BC Lions
Jeremy Geathers of the Spokane Shock has signed with the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League.
Geathers collected four sacks and 14.5 total tackles in only nine regular season games. During the postseason, Geathers led the league in sacks (2.0) and was named the Defensive Player of the Game in Spokane’s 69-57 win over Tampa Bay in the ArenaBowl.
Geathers joins former Spokane Shock defensive back Stanley Franks on the Lions’ roster and becomes the fourth player from Spokane’s roster to sign a contract to join an outdoor league. Franks played in Spokane during the 2009 season.
Wide receivers Markee White and Huey Whittaker signed with the UFL last week and offensive lineman Chris Pino joined the CFL in June.
AFL moves to 18-game
regular season for 2011
TULSA, Okla. — The 2011 Arena Football League regular season has been extended from 16 to 18 games, league commissioner Jerry Kurz announced.
The league will consist of 19 teams and each will play 18 regular season games, with the option of two preseason games games (one home and one away). The change was passed in an ownership vote last week during the league’s Board of Directors meeting in Phoenix.
The AFL has grown from 15 teams in 2010 to 19 by adding teams in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, San Jose and Kansas City.
