Although the Bonners Ferry High School volleyball teams had a low turn out this season, varsity head coach Janis Tucker is expecting good things from her team of eight.

“When you have a smaller team the girls get more court time an this will help with their skills,” Tucker said.

Tucker said the team has come very far working hard together in just the past two weeks.  She has three returning seniors, a junior and three sophomores with one sophomore floating from the  junior varsity team.

Last Wednesday the girls had a jamboree in Timberlake where although they lost to Priest River, Timberlake and Kellogg the games were very close.

Friday they varsity girls played a Tri, playing Lakeland and beating them in three and lost to Timberlake in three.  In a normal season the games are best three out of five matches at the varsity level.

“We ended up fourth in league last year,” said Tucker.  “It is hard to tell this early how we compare when we haven’t seen the other teams play.”

Tucker  said St. Maries is a team they are watching, with a lot of returning strong players.

With playing either a game or practicing six days a week Tucker said the Lady Badgers can overcome the  inexperience hurdle.

The  Lady Badgers are hard working and cognitive according to Tucker, she said they want to do well and they have good chemistry and great attitudes which is a hurdle already crossed.

District tournament to be held Oct. 23, the site and time will be announced at a later date. State tournament will be held Oct. 29 through 30, at Wendell High School.
