SANDPOINT - Adam Borshiem and Drew Morgan scored two goals apiece, and Coeur d'Alene withstood an early second half rally by Sandpoint to claim a 5-3 win in boys soccer action Wednesday at Centennial Field in Sandpoint.

It was the second meeting between the two evenly-matched teams, the first ending in a 3-3 tie, and also featured a matchup of two scoring machines in Borshiem and Sandpoint's Tanner Williams.

Borshiem now has 11 goals through four games, and was the driving force of the Vikings' attack.

"Borshiem is a handful, a tough kid to defend," said Sandpoint head coach Adam Tajan. "That's (Cd'A) a good team that took advantage of their opportunities, and we didn't make it easy on ourselves with some defensive breakdowns. We'll learn from it and bounce back."

When the Bulldogs (4-1-1) did strike, they did so quickly, with Spencer Hanson notching his first goal of the season just a minute into the game, and Williams scoring his 15th goal on the year just 10 seconds into the second half, equalizing the game at 2-2.

Shane Stanley added his seventh goal of the year just four minutes later, and with a 3-2 lead and momentum on its side, it looked like Sandpoint was in control. The resilient Vikings would respond with three goals to close out the high-octane offensive game.

"Our distribution in the midfield," said Vikings head coach Jeff Lake on the key to the game. "We switched the ball today and you can see it in our assists."

Sandpoint starting keeper Kanyen Bauer missed the game with an injury, and sophomore backup Austin Keyes took over between the pipes, registering 10 saves as both the Vikings and Bulldogs were peppering the goals with 15 shots apiece.

Sandpoint plays its third game of the week on Friday at Lake City, having beaten the Timberwolves 4-1 on Monday night.
