The reconstruction of First Street from the alley behind Casey's Bar to Baker Avenue will begin the day after Labor Day, Tuesday, Sept. 7. The project includes replacing sewer lines, sidewalks, street curbs and gutters. Schellinger Construction is contracted for the work.

Access on First Street will be blocked, although the alleys will continue to be open in one-way directions. Central Avenue will dead end in temporary turn-arounds at First Street. Pedestrian access will generally cross First Street at the alleys, but may change depending upon construction needs. Sidewalks will be open except when crews are working on them.

The project will continue until late October or mid-November, depending on weather and construction progress.

The 100 block of Central Avenue is scheduled to be reconstructed next spring.
