Polson boys and girls finish high atop the leader board for Tri High School meet

POLSON - The Polson golf teams defended their home turf well as the girls finished first and the boys' team finished second at the Polson Tri High School Golf Tournament last Tuesday in Polson.

For the third straight meet, the Lady Pirates finished in the top five after placing fourth at Old Works and third at the Ronan Invitational earlier this month.

Senior Amy Williamson placed first with a score of 88, which is her best score of the year.

Williamson has led Polson in scoring in all three of the team's meets.

Sophomore Anna DiGiallonardo had a 99, junior Makaliah Wilson had a 101, freshman Jaylin Kenny had a 102 and junior Kat Medland had a 108.

"That was the girls best score to this point," Polson head coach Bill Owen said. "I think what is happening is their short game is improving."

Owen said the girls' team has been focusing on chipping and putting during practice, which has helped their scores climb the leaderboards at meets.

The boys' team also had a successful day as they finished with a score of 326 partly thanks to senior Dakotah Jenson placing second individually with a round of 76.

"He was hitting his stride well," Owen said.

It was their second straight top five team finish of the season.

Sophomore Hayden Congden finished fourth with a 80 and sophomore Cody Fischer shot an 81 for fifth. Junior Austin Von Tom had an 89 and senior Logan Howell had a 91.

Hamilton finished ahead of the Pirates with a winning score of 310.

"Hamilton was a little higher [in scoring] than I thought they would be," Owen said. "Our score was right with them."

The team's next meet will be at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 14 in West Glacier.
