CLARK FORK — For the first time in Brian Arthun’s coaching career, a football game was called because of lightning, as the Wampus Cats hosted Noxon on Friday night.

The Cats (0-1) were trailing 20-12 when officials finally called the game with one minute left in the second quarter, after lighting was still striking everywhere after a 30 minute weather delay.

“It was pretty crazy,” said Arthun, who was pleased with how his team was playing up to that point. “We made huge strides from week one, did a lot better job of controlling the line of scrimmage.”

Stillman Berkley scored the on a one yard sneak for one of Clark Fork’s touchdowns, while Arthun called the second one a reprisal of the old Oakland Raiders “holy roller” play. Axel Anderson fumbled the football, which was then kicked into the end zone, where Austin Thrasher recovered it for the score.

Arthun had high praise for the play of Nate Nesbitt at running back, and James Becker along the defensive line.

“Nate really stood out. He was running recklessly without any regard for his body,” said Arthun. “James was a major disruptive force on the defensive line. He had three tackles for loss and really set the tone for the defense.”

The game will not be made up. Clark Fork is at Mullan next Friday.
