PABLO - The Two Eagle River volleyball team showed signs of growth in their two matches last week and it seems all that hard work in practice is paying off.
"We do scrimmages with other former students and I think it's helping," said Two Eagle River head coach Chrissie Ewing.
The Lady Eagles lost to Victor on Thursday 25-13, 25-2, 25-11, but Victor had eight returning starters while Two Eagle River had just one.
Against Lincoln on Saturday, the team got better with every match.
The Lady Eagles lost the first set, 25-3, but then improved to 25-10 and 25-14 loses in the second and third matches. Serving proved to be extremely crucial for the Lady Eagles as they seemed to have more success when they were on the attack.
"It's very important," Ewing said. "Some of the girls are learning how to serve for the first time."
Junior Tiana Piapot had two kills and two digs in the match against Lincoln.
Junior Audrey Finely had one dig and junior Charlene Conica had one dig and one ace.
One spot where Ewing thought the team could improve is the communication.
"In practice they do a lot of talking, but not out here," Ewing said. "I think they're nervous."
The Lady Eagles will play on the road at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at St. Regis. Then on Saturday they'll play in the Philipsburg tournament.
