On the road versus Thompson falls Fairfield proved why they are the number one ranked class B football team in the state, as they won 42-7. The loss sank the Bluehawks record to 0-2.

“We came out and played like we knew exactly what we were doing,” said Thompson Falls head coach Doug Padden. “We got a pick and about three plays later we were in the endzone,” he said, describing Nick Adler’s three-yard rushing touchdown. That score, however, would be both the first and last for Thompson falls that evening.

“We got in a situation where we needed to punt and we had three over-the-head snaps, which gave them great field position,” said Padden of his team’s early-game misfortune which allowed  Fairfield to pull ahead for good. “We actually played a lot better game than the score indicated I thought.”

The opportunistic Eagles were relentless, turning turnovers into points as they racked up a 35-7 half-time lead. Fairfield bull-dozed their way to 173 rushing yards on the ground, and were adept through the air as quarterback Matt Patterson completed eight of 11 passes for 89 yards, and three scores.

Fairfield scored from long range on a 45 touchdown reception by Collin Allen, a 43 yard rush by Patterson, and 25 yard run by Allen.

Chad Barrett gained 52 yards on nine carries and caught a 10-yard touchdown pass from Patterson.

Thompson Falls will have a chance to right their ship as they go on the road Friday to face Loyola.
