MOSES LAKE - The Moses Lake Fire Department suspect a pair of boys set two wildland fires last week.

The two blazes burnt vegetation in the Glenmore area of Moses Lane on four acres land and threatened two homes, Assistant Fire Chief Brett Bastian said on Monday.

The first fire was Monday and burned an acre. A second fire burned roughly three acres on Friday at 4 p.m.

Firefighters believe both fires were intentionally set.

A local construction worker told fire officials of seeing the same two white juveniles, between the ages of 12 and 13, in the fields immediately prior to both fires, said Bastian.

"We did not recover a device of origin; however, we believe that it was a handheld lighter or match that set off the fires," he said.

No one was hurt by the fires and no homes damaged. Some construction material was destroyed.

High winds on Friday accelerated the fire, helping it spread rapidly, said Bastian.

Glenmore resident Paul Cagle saw the fire Friday.

"I noticed the fire from Interstate 90 on my drive home. The winds were kicking up the fire really good," said Cagle.

He said his house is located about 50 yards from the fire location.

People with information about the arson suspects are asked to call 9-1-1.
