ST. REGIS — The Arlee volleyball team (4-1 overall, 2-0 conf.) had a little extra motivation on Friday against St. Regis, as they wanted to be able to make it back in time to catch the Arlee-Charlo football game. The Scarlets went to work, winning 3-0 and getting the early bus ride back home that they wanted with 25-17, 25-16, 25-10 game wins.

“They wanted to win in three and that’s what they did,” Arlee head coach Brian BigSam said. “They came out swinging and hitting.”

Senior Melissa Ivanoff was fantastic again for Arlee in the match, collecting five kills.

The St. Regis win came after Arlee’s 3-0 victory over Alberton last Tuesday, 25-8, 25-15, 25-8. Junior setter Courtney Dix was instrumental in the team’s success with eight assists.

“She’s one of those all-around players,” BigSam said, who’s now trying to set up plays for her so she can hit more.

The only blemish on the Scarlets weekend was a 3-0 loss to Drummond on Saturday, despite 65 team digs and 19 from Ivanoff.

“She’s a go-getter, she was backing girls up,” BigSam said. “She had an awesome night against Drummond.”

The game scores were 25-8, 25-13, 25-20. BigSam said that one girl was out with a sickness and it disrupted the rotation of the team.

“It really threw us off,” he said.

The Scarlets will play Noxon at 5:30 p.m. on Friday at home. Then they will host their Spike It tournament on Saturday.

You’ll have to excuse me for stating the obvious, I’m assuming everyone in Polson already knows this but Neal Lewing is one heck of an actor. I was first able to see the Port Polson player as Judge Turpin in the production of Sweeney Todd last November.
