MOSES LAKE - The Columbia Basin Herald and C&V Auto are partnering to hold their first chili cook-off on Oct. 2.

The event is set from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., at C&V Auto, located at 12174 N. Frontage Rd., in Moses Lake.

The public is invited to enter favorite chili recipes, or just stop by to sample the work of others.

"We're really excited," said Columbia Basin Herald Sales Manager Lynn Garza. "Come on down and taste the chili. Fall is a great time of year for chili."

The event is held to provide a fun event for the community and to give cooks a chance to show off their best recipes.

Three judges decide who wins the best chili prize of $250.

Cooks can also vie for a people's choice prize of $150.

Chili tasters can enter to win an overnight stay at the Coeur d'Alene Resort.

For people wanting to enter the cook-off, a registration form is included inside today's Columbia Basin Herald. The registration deadline is Sept. 29.

You must have a temporary food handler's permit to enter, as chili is cooked on-site during the event.

For more information, contact Garza at 509-765-4561, ex. 127.
