The varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams beat Clark Fork at a home match Monday night.

The match scores were 17-25, 25-11, 25-12, 25-18 for varsity and 25-20, 25-22, 10-15 for the junior varsity games.

“This is revenge (for the varsity team) for the loss to them (Clark Fork) in the tournament this past Saturday,” said varsity coach Janis Tucker.

Senior Markayle Acord had nine kills, five blocks and five ace serves. Senior Olivia Langs had 18 digs and 5 ace serves.

Mattea Bertling, a junior, had 9 kills, sophomore Ivy Dirks came in with 29 assists and freshman Jailee Foster had five ace serves.

“I see a big improvement in our serve receive and consistency in hitting,” Tucker said. “The girls on the team are developing the fighting attitude where they dig deep to come from behind.”

“We saw strong serving with 25 total team ace serves Monday but particularly strong serving from senior Miranda Stippich,  Langs, and freshman Jailee Foster,” said Tucker. “Our seniors are showing great leadership and the team is jelling.”

Junior varsity coach Desiree Staples said her girls played great and they are starting to look like a team. 

Bonners Ferry hosted five visiting teams in a tournament on Saturday. 

The varsity Lady Badgers scored 25-20, 21-25, 15-11 and beat Clark Fork in pool play.  The lady Badgers beat Whitefish during the tournament with a score of 25-16, 25-16.  Bonners Ferry also won the match with Columbia Falls scoring 25-17, 23-25, 15-5.  Coeur d’ Alene junior varsity beat the Badgers 25-19, and Clark Fork beat Bonners Ferry 25-18 in the one game consolation brackets.

During the tournament Acord had 28 kills and 10 blocks, Stippich had 11 ace serves, Dirks had 51 assists and Langs had 30 digs.

“Great day for the Badgers,” Tucker said.  “Great hustle and team play.”

In League play the Badgers defeated Priest River at home on Thursday with game scores of 25-19, 25-17 and 27-25.

Accord had 11 kills, five blocks, and two ace serves. Langs had nine digs and Dirks had 25 assists.

Tucker said this was a great game for the team and the first time they have played consistent for the entire match.

“I think they are learning that with great passing and serving the rest of the game will take care of itself,” said Tucker.
