Chiefs fall in season opener

KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Tri-City Americans jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period on their way to a 6-3 win over the Spokane Chiefs in the season opener for both teams in front of 5,922 at the Toyota Center on Saturday night.

Spokane scored its first goal on a rebound by Matt Marantz and pulled to within a 5-3 on power play goals by Levko Koper and Reid Gow in the third period.

James Reid had 22 saves for Spokane, which travels to Cranbrook, British Columbia, on Friday to face the Kootenay Ice.
