The school year has just begun but it isn’t too early for Bonners Ferry High School seniors to start thinking enrolling in college.

In fact according to Boise State University enrollment counselor Jim Wolfe, deadlines for enrollment and scholarships are as soon as Feb. 15.

On Monday Wolfe spoke to Bonners Ferry and Sandpoint High school’s  class of 2011 students interested in attending BSU.

Wolfe who graduated from BSU in 2006, explains the students’ deadlines, admissions process and academic programs to students. Wolfe is in his third year of traveling to high schools in Idaho, Oregon and Washington to deliver the BSU message.

“In the past generally we get a lot of students from northern Idaho,”  Wolfe said.

One of the unique attributes of BSU is that it is located in a city, near businesses and multi-national corporations and two major regional hospitals for those seeking a medical or nursing profession. It is an urban environment and even has areas that resemble north Idaho near by, with camping, lakes and skiing.

“BSU has good relations community and it augments all academic programs,” Wolfe said. “The university has a lot to offer on campus as well as off,” Wolfe said.

It costs students who live in Idaho about $5,300 a year to attend BSU, according to Wolfe.

“We encourage students interested to take a road trip and come down to check out the campus,” said Wolfe. “This will give them an idea of college life and what BSU has to offer.”
