Drive. The sewage is pumped from the facility to the Sand Dunes

Treatment Plant.

MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake is planning to build a basin to hold sewage in case the city needs to shut down pumps at its Central Operations Facility.

The city council recently approved advertising for bids for the 1 million gallon storage basin at the facility located at Lakeside Drive. The sewage is pumped from the facility to the Sand Dunes Treatment Plant.

The project is estimated to cost $1.9 million, according to city records.

"The purpose of that storage basin is if our force main breaks between the central operations facility and our plant down on K Road, we'll have more capacity to shut those pumps down," Municipal Services Director Gary Harer said during the council meeting.

Councilmember Brent Reese asked how long it would take to fill the basin.

If the break happens during the day, Harer said it would take about 12 hours to fill it up.

Harer said the new basin would be in addition to the current 75,000 gallon basin, which doesn't take long to fill.

The project is expected to start in June and finish in August.
