Twins' mother, grandmother to be sentenced

COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene mother and daughter are scheduled to be sentenced at 3 p.m. today for the extreme neglect, filthy conditions and harm suffered by twin 2-year-old girls while in their care.
The two women, 27-year-old Elisabeth C. Crossley and 55-year-old Ruth K. Cassidy, were convicted in First District Court in Kootenai County of one count each of felony injury to a child.
They are scheduled to be sentenced by District Court Judge John P. Luster. They face up to 10 years in prison, but it's likely to be much less.
Crossley's twins were found Dec. 5 living in the filthiest conditions Coeur d'Alene police have ever witnessed for children. They were living with Crossley and Cassidy at an apartment on the 1200 block of North Lincoln Way.
Cassidy entered an Alford plea, or modified guilty plea, to her charge. Cassidy didn't admit guilt, but acknowledged prosecutors have enough evidence to get a conviction. Crossley pleaded guilty.
Both were charged with a second count of felony injury to a child, but those were dismissed as part of plea deals.
