Lupinacci, Scholwinski, Rasmussen fuel Viking sweep

SOFTBALL
POST FALLS - Senior Jessica Lupinacci finished with seven hits and six RBIs on the day to lead the visiting Coeur d'Alene Vikings past the Post Falls Trojans 15-1 and 18-5 in 5A Inland Empire League softball action on Thursday.
"It wasn't a good day for us," Post Falls coach Jack Foster said. "In the first game, we hit some balls hard, but they made some plays and we didn't. Coeur d'Alene hit the ball really well today."
Lindsie Scholwinski hit a solo home run in the fifth inning of the first game and finished with three RBIs for Coeur d'Alene.
Chelsey Rasmussen hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning of the second game and added an RBI double in the seventh for Coeur d'Alene (11-4, 4-4 5A IEL), which hosts Lewiston on Saturday.
Dara Kolar hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning of the nightcap for Post Falls (4-13, 0-9), which hosts Lakeland today.

COEUR d'ALENE - Freshman second baseman Vanessa Shippy went 5 for 8 with five runs and five RBIs as the 5A Timberwolves swept the visiting 4A Bears in nonleague play.
"It was nice to see her come through with more confidence in the box today," Lake City coach Laura Tolzmann said.
Casey Stangel tied her own school record in striking out 17 in the first game for Lake City (16-0). She took a no-hitter into the seventh, broken up by Deven Chandler's RBI double with nobody out.
In the second game, Stangel went 4 for 4 with five RBIs, three doubles and a two-run homer in the third inning. Shippy was 3 for 4 with three runs, two RBIs and two doubles. Amber Edwards hit a two-run homer in the second inning and, two batters later, Mariah Linahan hit a solo shot.
Amy Westberg homered in the third for Moscow.
Jordyn McCracken struck out four of the six batters she faced in relief in the second game for Lake City, which is scheduled to travel to Post Falls on Monday.

SPIRIT LAKE - Vanessa Ahrendt had three hits and allowed three hits in the circle for the Eagles of Nine Mile Falls, Wash., in a nonleague win against the Tigers.
"With the league games yesterday (Wednesday) against Priest River, our minds were on other things," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "We weren't ready to play. Hopefully we'll get our focus back for St. Maries on Friday."
Timberlake (9-5) hosts St. Maries today at 4. The Lumberjacks will face Priest River in a makeup game at Timberlake at 2 p.m.
