The Northwest Montana Fair kicks off Aug. 12 and runs through Aug. 21. The following is a schedule of events:
Friday, Aug. 12
9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Open/4-H/FFA dog show check-in
10:30 a.m. Open/4-H/FFA dog show, then fun match, trade center
4:30 p.m. Entry deadline for open floriculture, dahlias, gladiolus, open, culinary and dairy products
Saturday, Aug. 13
8 a.m. 4-H/FFA horse show, main arena
4-6 p.m. open horse exhibits accepted
Sunday, Aug. 14
8 a.m. Open horse show, main arena
9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sheep/swine exhibits accepted
9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday only- photography exhibits accepted
3-8 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA rabbits exhibits accepted
Monday, Aug. 15
8 a.m. 4-H Mini horse exhibits accepted, market sheep must be in place
8-9 a.m. 4-H/FFA market sheep weigh in
9 a.m. 4-H/FFA rabbit judging market hogs must be in place
9 a.m.-2 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA beef exhibits accepted
9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. 4-H/FFA market swine weigh in
9 a.m.-8 p.m. Crafty cookie contest, preregistration at home culinary booth, Expo building
9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Fine arts, crafts, home arts and needlework, open ag/hort, home culinary, dairy, 4-H/FFA general projects, 4-H/FFA home ec exhibits accepted, photography judging
Noon-8 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA poultry accepted
1:30 p.m. 4-h mini horse judging
2 p.m. Beef cattle must be in place
3-4 p.m. Market beef weigh in

Tuesday, Aug. 16
8 a.m. Market sheep judging, trade center show ring; children's classes to follow
8 a.m. - noon Open/4-H/FFA dairy cattle exhibits accepted
8:30 a.m. 4-H general projects and home ec judging
9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Floriculture, 4h ag/hort exhibits accepted, photography department closed for preparation
9 a.m. Fine arts, crafts, home culinary, dairy, home arts & needlework, open rabbit, judging
2 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA poultry judging followed by rooster crowing contest
2-8 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA fiber exhibits accepted

Canyon bike trail meeting May 16
Supporters for construction of a new bike and pedestrian trail from Coram to West Glacier will meet at the Heavens Peak Lodge and Resort, 12130 U.S. 2, in West Glacier, on Monday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m.
Bill requires verification before issuing driver's licenses
A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.
Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.
Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
