The Northwest Montana Fair kicks off Aug. 12 and runs through Aug. 21. The following is a schedule of events:

Friday, Aug. 12

9 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. Open/4-H/FFA dog show check-in

10:30 a.m. Open/4-H/FFA dog show, then fun match, trade center

4:30 p.m. Entry deadline for open floriculture, dahlias, gladiolus, open, culinary and dairy products

Saturday, Aug. 13

8 a.m. 4-H/FFA horse show, main arena

4-6 p.m. open horse exhibits accepted

Sunday, Aug. 14

8 a.m. Open horse show, main arena

9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sheep/swine exhibits accepted

9 a.m. - 9 p.m. Sunday only- photography exhibits accepted

3-8 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA rabbits exhibits accepted

Monday, Aug. 15

8 a.m. 4-H Mini horse exhibits accepted, market sheep must be in place

8-9 a.m. 4-H/FFA market sheep weigh in

9 a.m. 4-H/FFA rabbit judging market hogs must be in place

9 a.m.-2 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA beef exhibits accepted

9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. 4-H/FFA market swine weigh in

9 a.m.-8 p.m. Crafty cookie contest, preregistration at home culinary booth, Expo building

9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Fine arts, crafts, home arts and needlework, open ag/hort, home culinary, dairy, 4-H/FFA general projects, 4-H/FFA home ec exhibits accepted, photography judging

Noon-8 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA poultry accepted

1:30 p.m. 4-h mini horse judging

2 p.m. Beef cattle must be in place

3-4 p.m. Market beef weigh in

5-9 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA goat exhibits accepted

Tuesday, Aug. 16

8 a.m. Market sheep judging, trade center show ring; children's classes to follow

8 a.m. - noon Open/4-H/FFA dairy cattle exhibits accepted

8:30 a.m. 4-H general projects and home ec judging

9 a.m.- 9 p.m. Floriculture, 4h ag/hort exhibits accepted, photography department closed for preparation

9 a.m. Fine arts, crafts, home culinary, dairy, home arts & needlework, open rabbit, judging

2 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA poultry judging followed by rooster crowing contest

2-8 p.m. Open/4-H/FFA fiber exhibits accepted

3 p.m. 4-H/FFA/open beef cattle judging

5 p.m. Inland empire carnival opens

7:30 p.m. Newsboys concert at grandstand

Wednesday, Aug. 17

8 a.m. Market swine judging, trade center 9 a.m. exhibit buildings open fine arts/photography exhibits open, Open/4-H/FFA ag/hort, floriculture judging

10 a.m. Open/4-H/FFA fiber must be in place noon open/4-H/FFA dairy cattle judging, Inland Empire carnival opens, Open/4-H/FFA fiber festival

5 p.m. Pig wrestling entry forms due

5-8 p.m. Open miniature horses exhibits accepted

7:30 p.m. Little Big Town concert at grandstand

Thursday, Aug. 18

All day senior citizens day

8:30 a.m. open miniature horse show, CHS arena

4-H/FFA goats judging

10 a.m. Beef fitting contest

11 a.m. Crafty cookie contest, Expo

11-11:45 a.m. Open/4-H/FFA pocket pals exhibits accepted

11 a.m. - 7 p.m. Flathead Electric Co-op day, bucket trucks & safety demonstrations near trade center

11:30 a.m. Round robin pre-training, trade center

Noon Open/4-H/FFA pocket pal judging

1:30 p.m. Round robin competition, trade center

3 p.m. Open goat judging

3-6 p.m. Pocket pals released

5 p.m. Dairy cattle released

5-6 p.m. Floriculture exhibits released

6:30 p.m. Indian relay races, grandstand

7 p.m. Justin mutton bustin', grandstand

7:30 p.m. PRCA rodeo, grandstand, wild pony races, after rodeo

Friday, Aug. 19

6 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. Dahlia and gladiolus exhibits accepted

10 a.m. Dahlia show judging; followed by gladiolus show judging

10 a.m. Fair parade line up on main street

3 p.m. Pig wrestling

6:30 p.m. Indian relay races, grandstand

7 p.m. Justin mutton bustin, grandstand

7:30 p.m. PRCA rodeo, grandstand, wild pony races, after rodeo

Saturday, Aug. 20

7:30 a.m. Buyers breakfast

8:30 a.m. Market livestock sale, trade center show arena

9 a.m. 4-H/FFA llama & alpaca judging

10 a.m.-1 p.m. The great American pie contest, exhibits accepted, Expo

11 a.m. Open youth llama/alpaca show

2 p.m. The great American pie contest, judging, Expo building

3 p.m. Pig wrestling, CHS arena

6:30 p.m. Indian relay races, grandstand

7 p.m. Justin mutton bustin, grandstand

12:30-5 p.m. Horse racing, grandstand, Indian relay races, after races

4 p.m. 4-H/Open camelid club awards

5 p.m. Llama/alpaca released

6-8:30 p.m. All exhibits released

7:30 p.m. Demolition derby, grandstand

Canyon bike trail meeting May 16

A bill requiring the state to electronically verify that all foreign nationals are in the U.S. legally before issuing a Montana driver’s license or ID card was signed into law by Gov. Brian Schweitzer on April 18.

Uphill skiers need to be aware of avalanches on Big Mtn.

Whitefish Mountain Resort’s post-season uphill policy expired last week, but with significant snowfall and changing weather conditions, the resort reminds skier and hikers that avalanche hazards in the ski area’s permitted boundaries do exist.
