SWIMMING
The Coeur d'Alene Arena Swim Team (CAST) traveled to Pasco, Wash., July 28-31 for the Inland Empire Long Course Championship meet with 428 swimmers from 15 teams participating in the meet and finishing fourth.
The Croc swimmers did enough to bring home the Spirit Award for the fourth consecutive time. Coeur d'Alene brought 35 swimmers down and had several outstanding individual performances. CAST had two high point winners in Maggie de Tar for the 11-12 year-old girls, and Bryce Kanaowicz for the 15 and over boys. The relay teams of Jon Archer, Cole Curtis, Tom Loftus and Gabe Markowski broke meet records in both the 200 freestyle and medley relays.
Rounding out the team's highlights were Ethan Cordes and Nicole Rozier, who made their first qualifying standards for the high level senior sectional meet next spring.
Peyton Bowen, Ethan Cordes, Maggie de Tar, Nicole Rozier and Spencer Shuman will compete for CAST at the Western Zone age group meet in Clovis, Calif., next week, while Bryce Kananaowicz and Joe Loftus will represent the team at the 2011 Speedo Junior Nationals at Stanford University in Palo Alto, Calif., on Aug. 8-12.
