"Charlie" was born in Alberta, Canada, in November 1917 and his family migrated to Idaho in 1918. From the early 1920s through mid-2005 his family, and later he and his wife, lived on Seventh Street in Coeur d'Alene.

Charles served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as an Aviation Radioman aboard Navy Supply Aircraft. After the war he joined the Navy Reserve and ultimately retired from the Navy as a Chief Petty Officer.

After World War II he also joined the U.S. Civil Service and was assigned to the Naval Supply Center at Subic Bay in the Philippines. While there, he met and subsequently married his wife, Consorcia or "Connie" as he came to call her. "Connie" passed away in September 2001 and is buried at Forest Cemetery where Charles will now join her.

Charles is survived by his adopted daughter, Leonora Shipman and her husband George, with whom he has been living with since his wife passed away; four grandchildren (George Jr., Annabelle, Janine and Charles); eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2011, at Forest Cemetery in Coeur d'Alene. English Funeral Chapel, Coeur d'Alene, has been entrusted to handle the arrangements.
