Uggla hits in 29th straight

Dan Uggla extended his hitting streak to 29 games and Alex Gonzalez hit a three-run homer to help the Atlanta Braves beat slumping Florida 8-5 Monday night in Miami, dropping the Marlins to 0-5 on their homestand.

Uggla beat out a grounder to short for an infield single in the fifth inning to extend the longest active hitting streak in the majors. He's tied with Rowland Office for the second-longest streak in franchise history behind Rico Carty's 31 in a row in 1970.

Mets 9, Padres 8: Lucas Duda's two-run single capped a three-run ninth against All-Star closer Heath Bell, and host New York rallied past San Diego.

Rockies 10, Reds 7: Carlos Gonzalez's two-run homer - Colorado's fourth of the game - broke an eighth-inning tie in a that featured a long rain delay and seven homers in all.

Astros 9, Diamondbacks 1: At Phoenix, Wandy Rodriguez allowed two hits over six innings and J.D. Martinez homered to lead Houston over Arizona.

Pirates 5, Giants 0: Charlie Morton and Jose Veras combined on a six-hitter, Ryan Ludwick hit a pair of RBI singles and visiting Pittsburgh snapped a 10-game losing streak by beating San Francisco.

Garrett Jones doubled among his four hits and scored twice to help back Morton, who improved to 6-2 on the road this season.

Philadelphia at Los Angeles, late: The game between the Phillies and Dodgers was in the eighth inning at press time.

Washington at Chicago, ppd., rain: The game between the Cubs and Nationals was postponed because of rain. The game will be made up Thursday.

• AMERICAN LEAGUE

White Sox 7, Orioles 6: A.J. Pierzynski homered and drove in three runs, Alex Rios singled in the go-ahead run in the eighth to help Chicago at Baltimore.

Gordon Beckham also connected for the White Sox, who blew a four-run lead before rallying to secure their season-high sixth consecutive win on the road. Third-place Chicago moved within five games of the lead in the AL Central.

Rays 2, Royals 1: At St. Petersburg, Fla., Casey Kotchman led off the ninth with a home run to lift Tampa Bay over Kansas City.

Red Sox 8, Twins 6: At Minneapolis, David Ortiz had four hits and three RBIs and delivered the go-ahead single with two outs in the ninth to lift Boston over Minnesota.
