Ballet at the market

Project: Dance will present an interactive demonstration of Storybook Ballet Class during the farmers market at Discovery Square on Thursday, Aug. 11, at 6:30 p.m. Children will enjoy a short story and imaginative dancing, and instructors will answer questions about fall classes and registration.

Fair looking for talent

The 2011 Northwest Montana Fair has 30-minute and one-hour open-time slots for local musicians, dancers and other talent on its Free Stage on Aug. 17, 18 and 19. The Free Stage is Flathead Valley's version of "America's Got Talent." The lineup so far includes Old Time Fiddlers, Great Scots Pipe & Drum, Kalispell Country Cloggers and John Dunnigan. River's Edge garden dinner

To celebrate the Columbia Falls Community Garden's first season in operation, the First Best Place nonprofit organization will hold a family-style dinner from the Palette Cafe at the garden at River's Edge Park on Saturday, Aug. 13, with dinner from 5-7:30 p.m. followed by a concert from 7:30-9 p.m. Cost is $25 per plate, $15 for kids 6-12, free for kids under-6. Plant talk at the market

Dawn LaFleur, an integrated pest management specialist at Glacier National Park, will be on hand to answer questions about nonnative, invasive plants during the farmers market at Discovery Square on Thursday, Aug. 18, at 6:30 p.m. She will give a short presentation on some of this area's most notorious plant invaders.

Crisis Line volunteers

Violence Free Crisis Line is looking for new volunteers, men and women, who are seeking an opportunity to make a difference and touch someone's life. The nonprofit organization has two programs dedicated to ending domestic violence - the 24-hour Crisis Line and its Children's Program. Volunteers can take calls from the comfort of their own home or work directly with children who have witnessed domestic violence. Training will begin Sept. 1.
