MOSES LAKE - Moses Lake police took a transient into custody Monday after receiving a report the 43-year-old man left a grenade at a Moses Lake RV park.
Bradley J. Beavin, 43, was arrested at 11:30 a.m. on traffic warrants while walking on Lybbert Drive Northeast, North of Cascade Park in Moses Lake, according to Moses Lake Capt. Dave Ruffin.
Police were searching for Beavin regarding a report of suspicious activity at the Lakefront RV Park on West Marina Drive, Ruffin said.
A woman called police Sunday to report an unknown male was in recent possession of what appeared to be a hand grenade. The subject had not been a resident of the park, but was believed to have left the grenade in a residence, according to a Moses Lake Police Department report.
The police department requested the assistance of the Richland Emergency Ordinance Disposal team, which checked the residence and found no explosive items.
Moses Lake police continued to investigate and identified Beavin as the suspect, issuing an alert to local law enforcement agencies.
"We've had contact with (Beavin) in the past," Ruffin said.
While no explosives were located, Ruffin called the complaint "realistic" and said police were still interviewing Beavin Monday afternoon and evening.
Members of the public who come across any suspicious cylindrical or spherical object are reminded to leave the item alone and contact police immediately, Ruffin said.
"People should be concerned not just because of this incident, but in general," he said. "Any time someone finds a suspicious object they should always leave it alone and give us a call."
Anyone with information on this incident is asked to contact Moses Lake Police Sgt. Mike Williams at 509-764-3900 or 509-762-1160.
