Karyssa Nelson and Tyler Langton shined at the state AA swim meet July 30-31 in Chinook. Nelson snared five gold medals, and Langton had four gold medals and a silver.

Swimming in the boys 8-and-under division, Langton won the 25 and 50 meter freestyle and the 25 meter backstroke and was a member of the champion 100 meter medley relay. Langton joined James Role, Cooper Babcock and Bryce Dunham in the 100 meter medley relay.

Nelson won the girls 11-12 age group 200 meter intermediate medley, the 50 meter freestyle and the 100 meter freestyle and was a member of the championship 200 meter freestyle relay and the championship 200-meter medley relay. In the relays, Nelson joined teammates Ashley Caffrey, Analise Henjum and Leanne Marino.

Langton set a new pool record in the 50 freestyle, and Nelson set a pool record in the 100 free.

The week before at divisionals, Nelson broke two state federation records in the 50 and 100 yard freestyle in the 11-12 age group. She swam the 50 in 27.28 seconds and the 100 free in 1:01.45 seconds.

Langton and teammate Cooper Babcock were both first and second in high point honors. Colton Babcock won high point honors in the boys 11-12 age group.

"I'm proud of them," coach Mike Nelson said of his swimmers. "They did a good job."

Columbia Falls took second at divisionals behind Bitterroot and fourth at state. Bitterroot won the state AA championship.
