Soccer jamboree set for

next week at Lake City High

A boys and girls varsity soccer jamboree will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 17 at Lake City High as a fundraiser for Youth Endowment for Activities. Both boys and girls will play at the same time and no passes will be accepted.

Game times are listed below:

Sandpoint vs. Coeur d'Alene, 2 p.m.; Sandpoint vs. Lake City, 2:50; Post Falls vs. Coeur d'Alene, 3:40; Post Falls vs. Lake City, 4:30.

Whitworth announces

Hall of Fame Class of '11

SPOKANE - The Whitworth University Crimson Club has approved four new members of the Whitworth Heritage Gallery Hall of Fame for induction on Oct. 8.

Sky Blake, Warren Friederichs, Tiffany Speer and Jerry Tighe will be inducted into the Whitworth University Heritage Hall of Fame on Oct. 8.

Blake (class of 2001), was an AP Little All-American during his senior season in 2000. A defensive end, Blake led the Northwest Conference in total tackles (110), per game (12.2).

Speer (class of 2005), finished as the second all-time leading scorer in women's basketball. She finished her career with 1,707 points and set Pirate records for most points in a single game (48), single season scoring average (21.1) and most free throws made (540) and attempted (698) in a career.

Tighe (class of 1970), was an NAIA cross country and track and field All-American and won three consecutive district cross country championships and finished as high as 11th in the national cross country championships. He because a three-time All-American in the two-mile run at the indoor track and field championships between 1968-70 and was a two-time All-American in the three-mile, earning national runner-up in 1969.

Friedrichs has served a variety of key roles in the athletic department, most notably as the men's basketball coach from 1986 to 2001. He is the winningest coach in school history with a record of 251-195. His teams won or shared five Northwest Conference titles and led the Pirates to three national tournament appearances.

The class will join 71 individuals and seven teams already enshrined in the Heritage Gallery during a breakfast ceremony and will be recognized at halftime of the Whitworth-Pacific Lutheran football game that afternoon.

Roller edges Bayley

for state golf title

Stephen Roller of Hayden edged Derek Bayley of Rathdrum by one stroke to win the boys 15-year-old state championship in the Idaho Golf Association Junior State Championship on at BanBury Golf Course in Eagle.

Roller shot a 69 on Monday and 77 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 146. Bayley shot a 74-73-147.

Kyle Kaufman of Coeur d'Alene finished fifth in the boys 16-year-old division with a 153, and Michael Porter of Coeur d'Alene tied for seventh at 155.
