COEUR d'ALENE - A 24-year-old Coeur d'Alene man was treated at a hospital Tuesday night for injuries he sustained in a beating at the hands of a group of men, a police report said.

It wasn't clear from the police report why he was attacked, but he did tell an officer at Kootenai Medical Center that the attack occurred at the Citylink transit parking lot at Seltice Way and Riverstone Drive.

He told Coeur d'Alene police he was meeting his girlfriend at the lot, but she wasn't aware they would be meeting.

While in the parking lot, an unidentified man approached his vehicle.

The man walked up to the open passenger window of the alleged victim's green two-door Geo Metro, and they began talking about his stereo.

The Coeur d'Alene man then invited the man to sit in his vehicle. They sat there for a short period of time before going to the man's vehicle "to look at the car stereo," according to the report.

There were four men in the man's car and they got out as the alleged victim approached the man's vehicle, the report said.

"The male who had been in his vehicle hit him from behind, knocking him to the ground," the report said. "All five males began hitting and kicking him."

The ordered him to give them his wallet, which included $200 in cash, his keys, and a cell phone.

The group then left.

"When asking for details about the incident (the alleged victim) was very vague," the police report said.

At the hospital, the alleged victim reported neck pain and had abrasions on his knees, along with other various injuries. He was placed in a "C" collar, police said. He also said he thought he might have a chipped tooth.
