A 27-year-old Sartell, Minn., man was jailed Thursday after police pulled him over on Interstate 90 for a traffic violation and found a large stash of cash and a variety of illegal drugs in his possession.

Lance A. Johnson was booked into Kootenai County jail for suspicion of money laundering, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substances and trafficking marijuana.

He was pulled over on I-90 at mile marker 34, near the interstate's connection with Highway 3 to Rose Lake.

Police found about $50,000 in cash and drugs in amounts consistent with personal use, said Maj. Ben Wolfinger, of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department.

Wolfinger said the large amount of cash next to the drugs raised red flags for officers, who took Johnson into custody.

What Johnson was doing in North Idaho is still being determined through investigation, Wolfinger said.

The sheriff's department has had no contact with him in the past, the department spokesman said.
