Commissioners to tour parking lot

The Kootenai County commissioners need a first hand look before they can decide on a proposal for a parking lot near Gotham Bay Road, just south of Coeur d'Alene.

After a public hearing last Thursday night, the commissioners voted to conduct a site visit of the proposed lot on Aug. 22.

The officials will then reopen the hearing and discuss their findings from the visit at 9 a.m. on Aug. 25, in the county administration building.

Doug Anderson, owner of Big Rock Timber Development, LLC, is proposing a 16-space lot, crosswalk and access infrastructure for a community dock to the north, across Highway 97.

Nearby residents have complained that the proposed lot would sit at a dangerous curve in the road that could lead to accidents.

The officials needed to see for themselves, said Commissioner Dan Green.

"I heard testimony from some who said it was a very dangerous situation, and testimony from others who said it was not dangerous," Green said. "The only way for me to determine is to look for myself."

Cd'A man punched, robbed on Friday

COEUR d'ALENE - A Coeur d'Alene man was robbed Friday night after being punched by an unknown assailant.

The victim told police he was outside his apartment on the 1200 block of Emma Avenue smoking a cigarette when a Jeep driving along the street made an abrupt stop in front of him.

A white male got out of the Jeep, walked over and punched the victim in the mouth, according to a police report.

While the victim was on the ground, the man punched him again in the face.

After the second strike, the man snatched his wallet out of the victim's right back pocket.

The Jeep took off east on Emma, after having some trouble starting.

The victim said three people were in the Jeep, including possibly one woman. He did not recognize them.

The stolen property included the $20 wallet, an Idaho driver's license, an Army National Guard identification, three credit cards, $91 cash, and a concealed weapons permit, the police report said.

Flash mob seeks participants

COEUR d'ALENE - It's not too late. You can still be part of a flash mob coming soon to Coeur d'Alene.

The event is a fundraiser for the Kootenai County Boys and Girls Club, and for the MEB Foundation, founded by American marathoner Meb Keflezighi to promote health, fitness and education in the United States and in his native country of Eritrea.

For a $20 donation, anyone can participate.

A flash mob is basically a group of people who assemble, without warning, in public, and dance to a song. The date is secret. So is the place. Communication between conspirators is via email, Facebook, text or Twitter.

Because this is a choreographed routine, the song and a film of the dance to go with it will be emailed to those who register.

There will be a rehearsal.

Request a registration form via email at [email protected] or check out flashmobcda on Facebook.
