EPHRATA - A special three-day filing period is open Wednesday through Friday for non-partisan offices for which no one filed during the regular filing period.

There are 44 positions open for filing. Offices include council positions in Ephrata and George, as well as numerous commissioner positions on fire, hospital, port, cemetery, water and airport districts across the region.

Its relatively common to see a high number of openings at this point in the election cycle, according to Grant County Elections Administrator Sue Ramaker.

The open council positions are sure to see filings this week, although some of the smaller boards and commissions have remained inactive for as many as 22 years due to lack of interest, Ramaker said.
