COEUR d'ALENE - An evidentiary hearing has been set for the driver suspected of chasing three Coeur d'Alene teenagers preceding a fatal car accident.

The Sept. 8 hearing was scheduled for Kade D. Laughlin, 20, after he responded to the $5,000 warrant for his arrest issued July 13.

The hearing will be to determine if the state has enough evidence to prosecute the Filer man for violating terms of his probation.

An affidavit filed in Twin Falls County Court states that Laughlin tested positive for alcohol on July 5, as well as admitted to Twin Falls County Sheriff's deputies that he had drank beer on April 24.

The alleged alcohol infractions would violate Laughlin's probation since he was sentenced March 8 to driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the affidavit filed in Fifth District court.

Laughlin was arrested for DUI Sept. 12 shortly after the 1 a.m. accident that claimed the lives of Coeur d'Alene's Devon Austin, 19, and Ryan Reinhardt, 18.

Laughlin is facing a reckless driving charge for allegedly chasing the teens before the crash.

That trial has been set for 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23.

Laughlin also pleaded guilty to a minor consumption of alcohol charge Aug. 16, stemming from the April 24 incident. Sentencing for that case will be Sept. 27.
