John "Dale" Ashby

John "Dale" Ashby, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, "returned to his loving Heavenly Father" on Friday, Aug. 19, 2011.

He was born Oct. 30, 1918, to Fred and Elizabeth Annie Jones Ashby in Bountiful, Utah.

He married Ruth Margie Anderson in the Salt Lake Church of Latter-day Saints Temple on Oct. 10, 1940, and later divorced. He married Dorris Marie Price Sept. 17, 1948, who is now deceased. He married Betty Marie Brown in the Los Angeles Latter-day Saints Temple on Oct. 13, 1973.

Dale was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of his life and held many church callings. Dale and Betty served in the Missouri Independence Mission of the LDS church in 1990. Dale also served for many years in the Salt Lake and Bountiful Temples. His family and close friends will remember him for his love for the Gospel, and his love of his family and his garden.

Dale is survived by two sons, Jerry and Sandy Ashby, and Dennis and Tina Ashby; two daughters, Meridel Barden and Penny Piekarski; one stepson, Gary, and Susan, Brown; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his wives; four sisters, Ruth, Beula, Eva and Beth; two sons-in-law, James Barden and Lee Piekarski; one stepson, Grant Brown; and two grandsons, Justin and Jared Brown

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26. A viewing will be held from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. for family and friends at Myers Mortuary, 5865 South 1900 West, Roy. Interment will be at Bountiful Cemetery.
