Sperry Chalet has closed for the season so repairs can be completed to the chalet and the kitchen roof.
The chalet was scheduled to remain open until Sept. 10, but deep snows last winter and an avalanche damaged the buildings. In order to get repairs shored up before winter, the chalet's last night of occupancy was Aug.. 22.
Chalet manager Kevin Warrington said it was his understanding that the kitchen roof and a room in the chalet need repairs.
Glacier National Park spokesperson Denise Germann said crews have been hauling supplies up to the Sperry and Granite Park chalets. Granite Park Chalet's balcony was damaged, but Warrington said the chalet would remain open until its closing date of Sept. 9.
Deep snows also damaged the Scalplock Lookout. Germann said those repairs were completed last week. She said there was no cost estimate of the repairs.
