POLSON — At 7:09 a.m. Monday, a woman driving a maroon sedan drifted across U.S. Highway 93, totaling her car into a large blue spruce across from Richwines in Polson.

“The female started to feel dizzy, and it caused her to go off the roadway,” Polson Police Officer Chris Wright said. “She was out of the car when we arrived, but she was transported by medical personnel... Alcohol and drugs were not involved.”

Doctors are still investigating what caused the woman to crash, Wright added.

According to Polson Fire Chief John Fairchild, the impact of the car caused so much damage to the tree that it had to be removed.

“Mission Valley Power was also called to the scene in order to keep anyone from getting hurt while removing the tree,” he said. “Because the tree was so close to the power lines, there was a chance electricity could leak down the tree and shock someone.”

Lake County dispatch said the cable and phone companies were on scene as well. One lane of the highway was closed for a short time while the vehicle was removed.

“Once we got the vehicle out of there, everything was up and running again,” Fairchild said.
