COEUR d'ALENE - Additional human bones have been found at a site near the Coeur d'Alene River, south of Rose Lake, the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday.

Investigators from the sheriff's office and volunteers from Kootenai County Search and Rescue have spent the past couple of days scouring the area after bones were found over the weekend.

Investigators now are preparing to send them to a forensic anthropologist in Seattle for dating and possible identification.

Investigators hope to be able to compare dental records of missing persons from the region with the remains that were found by campers on Saturday.

A sheriff's office spokesman, Maj. Ben Wolfinger, said they believe the bones are from one person. The anthropologist will confirm that, he said.

He said investigators have recovered about half of a skeleton so far.

As far as age of the remains and a possible gender, he said the anthropologist will have to determine that.

It wasn't clear how large of an area investigators were searching in to find more bones.

Wolfinger said further information will be released as it becomes available.

There are several missing people in the region.
