MOSES LAKE - Prepare to get lost in the heat of the moment when rock band Asia featuring John Payne comes to McCosh Park Saturday.
Asia known for hits like "Heat of the Moment" and "Only Time Will Tell," first formed in 1981 and featured former members of the bands King Crimson, Yes, and Emerson, Lake & Palmer.
When guitarist Steve Howe and vocalist and bassist John Wetton left the band in 1991, keyboardist Geoff Downes asked Payne to help him form a new lineup of the band.
Payne headlined ASIA from 1992 to 2006. In addition to touring the world for those 14 years, the band released eight studio albums, several live albums and a live DVD.
In 2006, Downes left to reunite ASIA under the original lineup. That year, the original band members contractually agreed Payne would continue performing as ASIA featuring John Payne.
"The original members were all in different bands and wanted to do an anniversary tour in the middle of me recording an album," Payne told the Illinois newspaper The Telegraph last year. "It got a bit heated but eventually came to a settlement, so they could go out as the original members of ASIA and I could go out as ASIA featuring John Payne. All that's under the bridge, and we signed a new deal with Sony and Favored Nations, Steve Vai's label."
The band introduced a new member for their summer tour, Grammy Award-winning guitarist Bruce Bouillet, who formerly played in the bands Racer X, The Scream and Epidemic.
Bouillet is working with the band in the studio for their upcoming album "Americana."
"The band and myself are excited to welcome our good friend Bruce and look forward to a new chapter for us all," said Payne.
ASIA featuring John Payne plays 8 p.m. at the Centennial Amphitheater in McCosh Park Saturday. The concert is free.
