Vikings open with big road win

MERIDIAN - Chad Chalich hit Bubba Duran with a 12-yard touchdown pass midway through the second quarter to put top-ranked Coeur d'Alene ahead for good, and the Vikings opened the season with a 37-24 nonleague victory over Rocky Mountain on Friday night.

Chalich, who finished 28 of 34 for 357 yards, also had touchdown passes of 55 yards to Joe Roletto and 18 yards to Carlos Martinez. Martinez finished with three catches for 54 yards and also rushed for 109 yards on six carries, including an 81-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to open the scoring for the Vikings.

Roletto hauled in six catches for 111 yards and Deon Watson had six grabs for 103 yards.

Coeur d'Alene plays Moses Lake next Saturday at CenturyLink Field in Seattle in the Emerald City Kickoff Classic.
