Timberlake romps in opener
Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 14 years, 3 months AGO
SPIRIT LAKE - Junior quarterback Dakota Rice completed 8 of 12 passes for 176 yards and three touchdowns as the Timberlake Tigers defeated the Libby Loggers 49-14 in the nonleague football opener for both on Saturday night at Van Tuinstra Memorial Field.
"Our defense did an excellent job tonight," Timberlake coach Roy Albertson said. "It was a hot night, but our kids persevered tonight."
Christian Heth ran for 112 yards, including a 94-yard touchdown run in the third quarter for Timberlake, which forced three turnovers.
Timberlake senior quarterback Brian Cronnelly missed the game after undergoing knee surgery last week.
"He actually hurt himself in track and started to feel better," Albertson said. "He was playing basketball and went for a rebound and hurt it again. We're not rushing him back, but he should be ready next week."
Timberlake travels to Riverside of Chattaroy, Wash., on Friday.
