Justin Verlander became the majors' first 20-game winner, grinding through six innings in the Detroit Tigers' 6-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Saturday at Minneapolis.
Indians 8, Royals 7: Asdrubal Cabrera hit a three-run homer in the eighth, leading Cleveland past visiting Kansas City.
Angels 8, Rangers 4: At Arlington, Texas, Ervin Santana pitched seven effective innings and Los Angeles beat Texas.
Red Sox 9-4, Athletics 3-0: David Ortiz hit a two-run homer, and Boston beat visiting Oakland to complete a sweep of a doubleheader.
In the opener, Jason Varitek hit a two-run homer for Boston.
Rays 6, Blue Jays 5: B.J. Upton hit a three-run shot in the seventh, leading Tampa Bay at Toronto.
New York at Baltimore, ppd., hurricane: The doubleheader between the Yankees and Orioles was postponed because of the expected bad weather associated with Hurricane Irene.
The afternoon game will be held Sept. 8, and the night game will become part of a doubleheader today.

Brewers 6, Cubs 4: Yovani Gallardo's 10 strikeouts lifted host Milwaukee past Chicago.
Reds 6, Nationals 3: Mike Leake tossed six solid innings, leading host Cincinnati past Washington.
Dodgers 7, Rockies 6, 11 inn.: Matt Kemp's homer in the 11th lifted host Los Angeles past Colorado.
Diamondbacks 3, Padres 1: At Phoenix, Joe Saunders pitched seven strong innings and Arizona beat San Diego.
Pirates 7, Cardinals 0: Josh Harrison had three hits and three RBIs, leading Pittsburgh at St. Louis.
Giants 2, Astros 1, 10 inn.: Jeff Keppinger's RBI single in the 10th lifted host San Francisco past Houston.
Florida at Philadelphia, ppd., rain: The doubleheader between the Marlins and Phillies was postponed because of rain and will be made up Sept. 15.
Atlanta at New York, ppd., hurricane: The Braves-Mets game was postponed because of the expected bad weather associated with Hurricane Irene and will be made up Sept. 8.
