POLICE: Letter hits bull's-eye

Coeur d'Alene Press | UPDATED 13 years, 6 months AGO

I just want to agree on the Post Falls Police Department letter dated Aug. 24. Many times I have wanted to write into The Press over the years but fear I will be "marked" as trouble and harassed by the Post Falls police if I do. Thank you for giving me the courage to write.

I have lived in Post Falls for more than 25 years now and my grievance is not due to citations regarding my property. I believe this department needs to take classes on how to deal with the public instead of being rude, almighty power hungry individuals who believe they are above the rest. I have been threatened so many times with being arrested it's not even funny. They do not listen. That's it, they do not listen to reason.

My situations were regarding an ex-boyfriend. On one occasion while I was at my son's boot camp graduation in Fort Leonard Wood my neighbor called me and told me my ex was in my home. I called the Post Falls police and yes they went there but because he had stolen a key from me previously they did not do anything. On another more recent occasion they no-trespassed me from my own property.

Another time I was baby-sitting my grandson, 6 months old, and stepped out in my front yard. The police came and accused me of drinking and driving. I explained the baby was inside alone and asked the officer if we could both go inside to talk and he said no. After hearing the baby crying I took two steps toward my front door and he tackled me to the ground, crushing my face to the pavement. I was not arrested, however, the baby was left unattended for more than 45 minutes.

Another time my ex-boyfriend hopped my backyard fence and was breaking into my home with an axe prying my doggie door open. When the police came they laughed at my homemade doggie door and said no wonder why it's so easy to break in. Like I invited someone to break in.

I remember a time about five to 10 years ago when you could call the police. And they wonder why people take the law into their own hands now-a-days. And the worst part is we actually pay them to treat us this way. They are a gang of their own, a clique. They will lie and stick together no matter what. I am hoping Chief Scot Haug can get a handle on his department. It's really making him look bad.
