Arvid Neibergs, former Pullman, Wash., resident, passed away at his home in Post Falls on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011. He was 98. Arvid was born Sept. 6, 1913, in Riga, Latvia.

He received his master's degree at the University of Riga in Latvia and studied Post-Graduate Veterinary Medicine there and in Sweden. He and his wife Carmel married in Dublin, Ireland, on Sept. 16, 1954. They moved to Pullman in 1959 where Arvid was in charge of the Washington State University swine herd for many years before he retired in 1978.

He loved gardening and loved his animals. It seemed Arvid always had a dog in his life too. He was active in Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of an International Latvian Fraternity.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carmel, in 1978 and his brothers, Paul and Alexandar.

Arvid moved to Post Falls in 1985 and enjoyed many good years there.

He is survived by his daughter, Laura Neibergs of Auburn, Wash.; and his sons, Shannon Neibergs of Palouse, Wash., Alexandar Neibergs of Ridgecrest, Calif., and Paraic Neibergs of Missoula, Mont.; and his grandchildren, A.J. Neibergs-Carter, Jason, Bryce, Mari, Hannah and Ian Neibergs.

The family suggests memorial gifts be made to your local humane society or to a charity of your choice.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011, in the Pullman City Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at www.kimballfh.com.
